ali'i tours

Today Jason took a day off during the schools fall break and we decided to go have some island fun. Friends have told us how great the Macadamia Nut Farm is, especially if you take the Ali'i Tour. So we decided to check it out. We learned about different plants and flowers and how they were used for food, clothing and shelter. And we learned a little bit about the Polynesian culture...how they fished, made fire, made fish ponds, fire danced, called each other using conch shells. The boys had a blast.

This is the little tour bus we rode around the farm in. I'm amazed that it didn't fall apart when we went over bumps. This was the "chief" who showed us his fire dance, fire starting, conch calling, and coconut shelling skills. Very impressive. Here's Jude drinking the coconut milk from a freshly cut coconut. He will try anything. He also ate the star fruit (seeds and all) they were picking off the trees and handing to us.And then we finished off our tour with a boat ride around a 800 year old fish pond created by the Hawaiians...and the beautiful Kualoa mountains in the background. Apparently the big draw to these gardens and farm are the many movies/TV shows filmed on this location (LOST; 50 First Dates; Gilligan's Island; You, Me and Dupree; Fantasy Island; Jurassic Park) which they pointed out to us as we sailed around the pond.

We have taken our family there because of the great price, how up close and personable they are and how easy it is to drive there in Kaneohe..and We had a blast! The kids loved the bus, boat ,show and we loved learning about everything-plus the mac nuts they have!
